We’re kicking off a new series in the newsletter called “Ask a bookseller.” Send in your book recommendation questions, and the Main Street Books team will answer them here in the newsletter. Our first letter in the series comes from a reader seeking a comforting fall read.

I love seasonal reading. What books would you recommend for someone seeking a cozy fall read? I love literary fiction, but I’m also not opposed to reading something a little fluffy.
“I don’t read many literary fiction titles, but I would probably pick up The Midnight Library by Matt Haig or The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah! The Midnight Library complements the magic surrounding Halloween nicely, and fall feels like the time to read historical fiction. One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig is fantasy, but it is high on my personal TBR for the season as well.”

“How about a smart story about a young woman living on on the ‘wrong’ side of the river who simply wants to learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons. Her boyfriend’s D&D group has a “no-girlfriend” rule which leads her to an all-girls group. This group of strangers becomes a source of strength and helps Hollis tap into her own longings. This is one of my favorite reads this year because of the friendships that Christen Randall builds. It’s called The No-Girlfriend Rule, and this is one that you do not want to judge by its slightly cringe title. It is wonderful!”
