Dean Rusk Program Event: Why Now is Not the Time to Forget Ukraine
October 15
7:00 – 8:00PM
Chambers Hance Auditorium (CHAM-4121)
Moderated by John and Ruth McGee Director of the Dean Rusk International Studies Program, Dr. Jane Mangan
GEORGE BUTLER is an award-winning illustrator who has reinvented the role of the Artist Reporter by drawing conflict zones, humanitarian crises, climate & social issues. Over the last fifteen years, Butler has been commissioned to create a slow alternative to the headlines. He attaches his drawings to the personal testimonies of those he meets and records their resolve and resilience alongside the vulnerability of their situations. His book, Ukraine: Remember Also Me: Testimonies from the War, exemplifies this approach. Join Mr. Butler for a book signing in the Chambers Building first floor lobby following the lecture!
Davidson graduate DR. LAUREN VAN METRE is the Director for Peace, Climate, and Democratic Resilience at the National Democratic Institute. She has extensive experience in conflict resolution and prevention, having worked on major policy initiatives at the Pentagon, the State Department, and the U.S. Institute of Peace. Dr. Van Metre is also a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, where she writes for Ukraine Alert on the war in the Donbas and its impacts on Ukrainian politics and society.
This event is FREE and open to the public. Book signing after the lecture.
Event is Co-Sponsored by the Pulitzer Center and Dean Rusk International Studies Program.
