The Town of Davidson is pleased to award the inaugural Placemaking Grant to the Davidson K-8 Parent-Teacher Organization. The Davidson Board of Commissioners approved $5,000 to fund this grant program for the previous and current fiscal years. Goals of the program include reimagining public spaces through a community-driven, hands-on approach. The Placemaking Program offers residents and community groups throughout town to collaboratively impact the public realm by improving their shared space and supports the Town of Davidson Strategic Plan: Healthy, Livable, & Vibrant Community. This is the first year of the Placemaking Program.

The Davidson Placemaking Grant is a reimbursable grant program. Funds may be used to support the installation of Placemaking initiatives as outlined in the Placemaking Guide and application. After several public discussions with the Board of Commissioners, the Davidson Placemaking Program launched in April 2024. Members of Town staff reviewed the application and the Davidson Public Art Commission (DPAC) provided a formal recommendation for approval at their September meeting.

The installation will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. During the installation, traffic lanes on South Street may be reduced to one lane. Please plan accordingly.

Two art teachers from Davidson K-8 will install new crosswalk treatments and roadway art on South Street. The existing crosswalk connecting the school to McEver Fields will be enhanced with bright colors while crosswalks spanning the school’s entrance drive aisles will include blue and orange tiger paws. Additionally, the tiger head school logo will be painted in front of the school on South Street.
