From Where Does It Come? (a Poem of Thanksgiving by Jody Seymour)
From where does it come…
this longing to respond?
Deserving not my next breath,
my wonder leads me to
a path through
the waiting arches
of grace
Then the voice…
“Your desire to respond comes
from my doing
You were created by
my thoughts of you
I shaped you with hands
you did not see
Now you feel something
deep within
your soul that I
fashioned in a
moment of mystery
From where does it come?
It is your need
to offer thanks
for as you close your
eyes you know…
You know you came
from somewhere not here
So now you sense a longing
to bow and pause
I placed that need in
you before you took
your first breath
It is there for you
to remember Me
Your forgetting will
do you harm
and lead you into
a solitude of selfishness
From where does it come?
Now you know.
So I wait for you
to simply say,
Thank you ”
