‘Tis the Season for Community Reads
Dear Reader,
We’ve had so many people in the shop these last couple of weeks that I feel as if I’ve seen you all! Thank you for your incredible patronage this season. You have many choices for your holiday shopping, and it means the world that you choose us.
January seems very far away, but event tickets make wonderful gifts, so I am going to share some upcoming events that we’re looking forward to:
- our Onyx Storm midnight release party on Monday, Jan 20th at 11 PM and advance ticket purchase is required,
- an evening with memoirist Shel Atkins and musical guest Reeve Coobs on Tuesday, January 28th, no ticket purchase necessary,
- an evening with legendary poet, Irene Honeycutt on Wednesday, Feb 5th, no ticket purchase necessary,
- an evening with Marie Benedict hosted by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library Foundation for the release of Queens of Crime on Wednesday, Feb 19th, advance ticket purchase required.
Did someone say library?
It’s time to announce the book selections for Read Davidson 2025. The Town of Davidson’s Read Davidson program will partner with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library- Davidson branch for its annual Community Read initiative in March 2025.
The theme for 2025 is “Art is . . . .” and the signature title is Portrait of a Thief by Grace D. Li.
Portrait of a Thief is like a literary Ocean’s Eleven but the gang is comprised of Chinese American college students (including Duke and UNC!) stealing Chinese art and artifacts from European museums as acts of art repatriation and decolonization.
The youth titles are:
- The Dot, the classic picture book by the iconic thinker Peter Reynolds,
- Art Club, a middle grade graphic novel by SCAD professor Rashad Doucet, and
- From Twinkle, With Love, a young adult (teen) rom-com by beloved author Sandhya Menon.
All Read Davidson titles are discounted 10% through March 2025.
Look for my annual “Books I’m Gifting” note on Thursday morning this week.
With cheer,
Adah & the Main Street Books Team
P.S. Fun fact: the founder of Read Davidson, Cristina Shaul, is now a bookseller at Main Street Books!
