Welcome, O Wanderer (The New Year Speaks), a Poem by Jody Seymour

by Jody Seymour | Dec 31, 2024

Waiting like a father reaching
for a child’s
first awkward steps…
Longing as a mother who looks
helplessly as her child
resists a warning

I reach to you as another
chance to make a
difference in time…
You think yourself small in
the vastness of so
many people who walk
past in a pace
as if to arrive at
“what matters”

“What matters” is you…
You are no accident or
incidental occasion
on a playing field
in some game
All would be different
if you were not here

I greet you…again
You matter…
Make a difference
I will notice…
And the one who
created me…and you
will too
