Men’s Basketball Drops A-10 Opener at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason shot 55.8 percent in a 69-57 victory over Davidson to open Atlantic 10 Conference play Tuesday afternoon inside EagleBank Arena.

The setback drops the ‘Cats to 10-4 overall and 0-1 in league play, while the Patriots improve to 10-4 and 1-0.

Despite the loss, Reed Bailey led the way for Davidson with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Hunter Adam came off the bench to finish with a career-best 11 points highlighted by a 3-for-3 effort from deep.

Zach Laput (11) and Bobby Durkin (10) also scored in double figures for the Wildcats, who shot just 37.5 percent from the floor in the second half.

The first 20 minutes featured three ties and four lead changes before George Mason used a small spurt late to take a 35-30 lead into the intermission.

The Patriots, who held a commanding 32-21 advantage on the glass, scored the first five points of the second half and eventually pushed the margin to as many as 15 late in the contest.

Brayden O’Connor and Jaylen Haynes were the lone George Mason players in double digits with 19 and 16, respectively.
