Davidson Community Foundation has named four new members to its Board of Advisors to serve three-year terms. The new board members include Marc deBree, Doug Hicks, Jean Spangler and Erin Banks.

Marc deBree is a managing director at TIAA and head of Real Estate and Alternatives for the company’s General Account, overseeing investments in Commercial, Real Estate, Farmland, Timberland, Infrastructure and Private Equity. He moved to Davidson in 2016 with his wife and two daughters.

Erin Banks is a community psychologist dedicated to advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion by promoting education, access and opportunities for all. In serving on the board, . Banks will continue to address the community’s most pressing needs through collaborative efforts that foster a more inclusive and equitable society.

Doug Hicks is President of Davidson College. A member of Davidson College’s class of 1990, Hicks returned to his alma mater in 2022. He joined Davidson College from his role as Dean of Oxford College at Emory University. Hicks is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Jean Spangler is a marketing consultant who moved to Davidson in 2018. She was President of Spangler & Associates Marketing in Charlotte for more than 20 years. Jean is a former board member of Davidson Housing Coalition and serves on the Social Justice Committee at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.

Other members of Davidson Community Foundation Board include Chris Ahearn, Jane Avinger, Bill Boehmler, Faye Bowman, Bob Boyd, Marvin Brandon, Dave Cable, Boris Henderson, Ruby Houston, Frank Jordan, John Kuykendall, Paul Leonard, Ann McCorvey, Bruce McMillen, Jim Merrifield, Harley “Buck” Shuford and James Waddey.

Davidson Community Foundation was established by residents as a way to expand philanthropy and bolster nonprofits serving the community. By working with local leaders and donors, its goal is to build and distribute funding to address Davidson’s most pressing needs. Since its inception, the foundation has raised more than $1.2 million to assist nonprofit organizations with COVID relief funds and with transformational community projects with partners such as the Town of Davidson, Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region, and Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte.
