#21 Clemson Defeats Lacrosse in Home Opener

DAVIDSON, N.C. — After a hard-fought 60 minutes, the Davidson Wildcats fell to No. 21 Clemson, 14-6, in women’s lacrosse non-conference action on Saturday night.
The Tigers out-shot the Wildcats 31-20, and held Davidson scoreless in the second quarter to pull out the opening day victory.
Clemson’s Kayla Macleod got the day started with a goal at the 11:53-mark in the first frame, before the ‘Cats rattled off three-straight goals from Jenna Skibbe and Payton Cheedle to pull ahead 3-1 with 7:42 to go. The lead would be Davidson’s last of the game, however, as the Tigers went on a 3-0 run of their own to go back in front 4-3 after the first.
Over the next three quarters of play, the Tigers outscored the ‘Cats 10-3, despite Davidson getting goals from Riley Cochrane, Riley Moore and Josie Lambert.
On the defensive end, sophomore net-minder Kayla Joyce made five saves while the Wildcats went 17-of-19 on clear attempts.
