European security is more unsettled than it has been in decades. Russia’s war against Ukraine continues, and the United States’ commitment to NATO and the defense of Europe’s security is increasingly doubtful. Besir Ceka will examine Europe’s options, how developments on both sides of the Atlantic may affect its choices, and what stake the United States has in NATO and Europe’s strategic dilemmas.

About the Speaker

Besir Ceka is the Chair and Associate Professor of Political Science at Davidson College, where he teaches courses in international relations and comparative politics, with a particular focus on European politics. His research and teaching interests lie in the fields of public opinion, political behavior, European integration, international organizations, and post-communist politics. Most recently, Besir’s research has focused on the psychology of conspiracy theories, how they affect political tolerance, and how misinformation can be countered.

Besir is a co-author of “Measuring International Authority: A Postfunctionalist Theory of Governance” (Oxford University Press), and the author of numerous scholarly articles published in journals devoted to the study of political science. He earned his B.A. from Bates College and his Ph.D from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
