It reminds us that taking small steps together—both literally and figuratively—can lead to big changes in the health and harmony of our neighborhoods. Weather permitting, Meet Up and Move will meet every Monday in April at 6 p.m. at the Roosevelt Wilson Park (420 Griffin St.) and walk to the Beaty Park (832 Besty St.) and back. Herb Jackson Annual Student Art Exhibition Reception

The Van Every/Smith Galleries and the Davidson College Art Department present the Herb Jackson Annual Student Art Exhibition in the Van Every Gallery from April 21 to May 7, 2025, with a reception on April 22 from 7-8:30pm. The Herb Jackson Annual Student Art Exhibition highlights more than 60 works produced during the academic year by both art majors and non art-majors at Davidson College. Works on view have been selected by the studio art faculty and include drawings, paintings, sculptures, prints, digital art and more. Beginning in 2025, the exhibition will be named in honor of Herb Jackson ’67 who taught at Davidson College for more than 40 years, due to the generous support of Kes Woodward ’73. Awards will be selected and presented this year by Woodward, an artist based in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Join Janet M. Stovall ’85, author of the forthcoming book “Now What? Doing DEI (whether others give a damn or not),” for an interactive workshop exploring the essential elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). In this session, you’ll:

• Delve into the five archetypes of the “DOING” model – Disaggregationist, Opportunist, Interventionist, Neutralist, and Globalist – to help you identify your personal approach to DEI.
• Discover how understanding your motivations, strengths, and potential blind spots can empower you to make a real difference in promoting inclusion.
• Learn practical strategies for translating your DEI archetype into meaningful action in your personal and professional life.
• Explore the concept of “equity” and how it relates to inclusion, gaining insights into how to advocate for fairness and dismantle systems of inequity.

Whether you’re a seasoned DEI advocate or just beginning to explore these concepts, this workshop will provide you with valuable tools and insights to navigate the complexities of this work with clarity and purpose.

We want to be your school aged child’s reading buddy! Sign up your school aged child for a 30 minute reading buddy session to share in the joy and power of reading. Library volunteers read aloud favorite books by asking questions, building vocabulary, and connecting to your child’s world.  This semester runs through April 30. Sessions are available Wednesdays from 4pm-6pm. Children register for a weekly reading buddy time for the entire semester!  Sessions are offered on a first come, first serve basis.

This program is not led by an instructor–it’s a social circle for sharing, building understanding and community. Sherrie Flick, the 2025 McGee Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing, is most recently the author of I Have Not Considered the Consequences: Short Stories which will be published by Autumn House Press on April 15, 2025. Jack Saebyok Jung, Assistant Professor of English, is most recently the author of Hocus Pocus Bogus Locus which will be published by Black Square Editions on March 15, 2025. Robert Hudson Vincent, Assistant Professor of English, is most recently the author of The English Baroque in Early Modern Literature which will be published by Edinburgh University Press on February 28, 2025.
