“A Bouquet for Davidson” will continue to be one of our town’s visible pieces of public art, even as it moves to a new location.

The Town of Davidson and the Davidson Public Art Commission (DPAC) are pleased to announce the “Bouquet for Davidson” is getting a beautiful, new home at Beaty Park. The Bouquet was the first piece of public art selected by the then newly formed Art Commission in April 2009, and it has been placed in the Nancy MacCormac Plaza between the Post Office and Main Street ever since.

The move is the happy result of the creation of the Davidson Veterans Monument, which involves a redesign of the Plaza in its landscape, sidewalk, seating, and other features. The Veterans Monument Committee raised the funds to design and create the monument, as well as redesign the Plaza. They raised $215,000, of which DPAC contributed $25,000, the lead gift.

The Veterans Monument Committee and DPAC selected Dowe Blumberg as the sculptor of the piece. He is the artist who created the “Dance of Life,” located near the Public Safety Building. The Veterans Monument is scheduled to be installed later this spring.

The Bouquet will be surrounded by landscaping and natural elements and will be the first piece in the planned Art Trail at the park. The Bouquet designer, the late Andy Dunnill, was an art professor at University of North Carolina Greensboro and was well-known for his work in public art. The Art Commission is excited to see the Bouquet in its new home, eventually to be joined by other public art pieces.
