Sophia Widdon (#17)

Sophia Whiddon netted a late second half goal, but the Wildcats took a 2-1 loss to their former Southern Conference rival Furman Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Davidson fell to 3-2-1 in their non-conference schedule with the loss.

Both teams unleashed a flurry of shots in the first half, with Davidson putting up seven shots and the Paladins taking five. Furman found the net in the final minute of the first half, as Caroline Moseley buried a header.

Taking the momentum out of the break, Bri Pinasco tacked on the game-winning goal in the 64th minute, an unassisted strike that put Furman up 2-0.

Whiddon looked to rally the Wildcats in the 73rd minute, scoring her second goal of the season on a header with a strong cross into the box from Isabella Harry. The comeback fell short after Davidson could not convert on their five shots in the second half.

Whiddon leads the team this season offensively with six points (two goals, two assists) while Harry recorded the first assist of her collegiate career.

Allie Moore and Grace Stair split time in net for the Wildcats, making two and three saves respectively. Paladins netminder Reese DeJong tallied five saves on the day.
