DAVIDSON — A goal by Richmond's Reese Miller proved to be the difference in a 2-1 double-overtime field hockey loss for Davidson Friday night at Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.
It's the third straight year the Spiders have defeated the Wildcats in overtime.
Miller's goal came with 5:51 left in the second 10-minute extra period, off an assist from Grace Wiggins.
It was the Wildcats (7-5, 2-2 A-10) who struck first Friday when Hannah Merritt scored late in the first quarter off a penalty corner that was inserted by Celie Constantine and stick-stopped by Sib Naaktgeboren.
The Spiders (7-5, 3-1) evened it at 1-1 when Clara Larripa scored, also off a corner, early in the second quarter.
