at 220-A Sloan Street, Davidson
The entire Davidson community is invited to the DHC Block Party this Thursday, November 6, from 5-7 p.m. at the corner of Sloan Street and Mock Circle. Come join us for music, a meal, a student art show, and a meet-up with your Davidson neighbors.
“The Davidson Housing Coalition works hard to preserve and create attractive, safe affordable housing, helping to keep Davidson open to people of all income levels,” said DHC Executive Director Connie Wessner. “Our Block Parties give our residents, our dedicated and effective property management company, and the greater community a chance to come together to celebrate our thriving neighborhoods and strength of community.”
The event will include a food tent hosted by the talented members of Davidson Presbyterian Church who will be selling their famous chicken wings, fries, and other dinner items. Because no block party is complete without ice cream, DHC board members will be serving Ben and Jerry’s free-of-charge, and guests will be able to indulge in sweet toppings on their ice cream.
Zeb Harrison and Sound of Praise will provide live music. Zeb’s group is the brass band featured at the annual Gospelfest Concert and during Christmas in Davidson, and they have earned quite a following in Davidson. We consider them the DHC’s Block Party House Band – you’ll be dancing in the streets.
Attendees will also be able to visit the DHC Art Show to see some of the entries and winners in our art show contest where kids of all ages submitted pieces over the summer using a variety of media to share what “home” means to them.
The block party will be held in and around 220 Sloan Street and the Creekside Corner parking lot. We recommend bringing your own chair. Parking is available at the Ada Jenkins Center located at 212 Gamble Street.

DAVIDSON HOUSING COALITION (DHC) works with our friends and neighbors in the larger community to preserve and create attractive, safe, affordable housing that reflects our towns shared civic values. We support Davidson’s commitment to keeping its doors open to people of all income levels, and fully believe that the array of talents, experiences, and viewpoints our residents offer make Davidson a better place to live. We believe that income need not become the primary determinant of the choice to live in Davidson. We support initiatives that promote equity and increase financial stability across economic lines. We focus our work primarily on:
- creating a mix of affordable housing options targeted to households earning 80% or less of area median income;
- ensuring that affordable housing exists throughout Davidson, including the ETJ, and that it reflects the quality and architectural design that our hallmarks of housing in town,
- honoring and acknowledging the dignity of the people who choose to live in DHC homes; and
- stewarding the community’s investment in affordable housing with integrity.
