Police and Fire Departments Recognized by NC League of Municipalities Risk Review Process

DAVIDSON, NC – The Town of Davidson Police and Fire Departments have been recognized by the North Carolina League of Municipalities for successfully completing the Risk Review Process. Davidson is the only municipality in Mecklenburg County to have both the police and fire departments achieve the requirements for this comprehensive program.
In 2016, the Davidson Police Department was the first law enforcement agency in the state to complete the process launched by the NC League of Municipalities. This initiative was developed with valuable input from the League’s Police Chiefs Advisory Committee and endorsed by the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police. The Risk Review Process is a voluntary program available to police agencies across North Carolina and has been adopted by departments statewide.
The Law Enforcement Risk Review Process is designed to evaluate an agency’s compliance with best practices, judicial decisions, and policies and procedures related to high-liability activities in law enforcement. The successful completion of this process aims to enhance public safety and ensure that critical departmental functions align with industry standards.
“The successful completion of this review is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and professionalism of every member of the Davidson Police Department,” said Chief Philip Geiger. “Our commitment to excellence and accountability ensures that we continue to serve our community with integrity, transparency, and a strong focus on public trust.”
The Fire Department Risk Assessment is a comprehensive program designed to assist municipal fire departments in identifying potential risks and enhancing operational effectiveness. Through a detailed review of internal policies and procedures, firefighter health and safety practices, compliance with OSHA standards, and adherence to overall industry best practices, the program supports departments in their ongoing efforts to improve safety and service delivery. Completion of the program reflects the Davidson Fire Department’s strong commitment to firefighter safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement in protecting the community it serves.
“The Davidson Fire Department is proud to be recognized for our participation in the League's risk review assessment process for Fire Departments in North Carolina,” said Fire Chief Ryan Monteith. “The League's risk assessment recognition, coupled with the support from Town Administration and the Board of Commissioners, allows the Davidson Fire Department to reach the highest standards and strive to meet best practices in our profession. By exhibiting the skills, good judgment, and qualities that are a hallmark of our profession, we are able to provide the best service to our citizens.”
