Dear Davidson Farmers Market Community,

As we enter the week of Thanksgiving, all of us at the Davidson Farmers Market want to take a moment to reflect on what this season represents -- gratitude, connection, and the shared work of feeding our community.

We are deeply thankful for our farmers and vendors, whose dedication and stewardship of the land nourish us all year long. Supporting local agriculture is at the heart of DFM’s mission, and your commitment to shopping locally, showing up in all seasons, and investing in regional food producers makes that mission possible.

This month, our community faced an unexpected challenge when the federal government shutdown disrupted SNAP and other food access programs. Thanks to swift leadership and contingency funding from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Food Policy Council, combined with DFM’s commitment of operating reserves and the generosity of donors, we were able to provide $50 in contingency funds to over 148 visitors throughout November. Some of these were return visits, and because of this coordinated effort, we are proud to share that we did not have to turn anyone seeking assistance away. These dollars not only supported neighbors in need but also flowed directly back to our farmers further strengthening our local food economy.

Your generosity also filled our Giving Wagon with donations for Ada Jenkins -- another reminder of what our community can accomplish together. 

We’re also grateful for the enthusiastic response to our Davidson Farmers Market Cookbook. The cookbook officially launched last week and is now available for purchase at the market, as well as at Main Street Books. We hope it brings inspiration to your holiday kitchens and market visits!

As we look back on this season, what stands out most is the power of community. Together, we supported local agriculture, cared for our neighbors, and ensured that good food remained accessible through uncertain times.
