Shakespeare, “Evita,” and “White Christmas” Lead Davidson Community Players’ 2026 Season

Davidson Community Players announces its 61st season with a vast array of theatrical styles across its three venues: Armour Street Theatre, Cain Center for the Arts, and the Duke Family Performance Hall. Subscriptions for the season are available now through January 15.
Highlights of the season include a co-production of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale with Charlotte’s Shepherd Shakespeare Company, the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic Evita, and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.
The Winter’s Tale will open the season January 22 at Armour Street Theatre. One of Shakespeare’s late romances that combines the Bard’s best storylines of simmering jealousy, outlandish comedy, and poetic enchantment, the rarely produced play will see DCP team up with Shepherd Shakespeare Company, whose mission is “to make Shakespeare fun and available to all."
Local audiences might recall the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2007 production of The Winter’s Tale at Davidson College, which showcased a complete transformation of the Duke Family Performance Hall Stage into a walkable promenade.
Executive Director Steve Kaliski will direct Evita, this year’s signature summer musical. Kaliski served on the directing team for the 2012 Broadway revival of Evita starring Ricky Martin, Elena Roger, and Michael Cerveris. “Evita checks all the boxes,” he says. “In addition to a lushly memorable score full of toe tappers and aching ballads, it also forces us to grapple with our heroes. What does it mean for an entire country to become so enamored with a charismatic yet flawed public figure? It’s no wonder this show refuses to go away.”
After a one-year hiatus in holiday shows, DCP will return to December programming with Irving Berlin’s White Christmas as the season closer at Cain Center for the Arts. Former DCP Artistic Director Sylvia Schnople will direct the stage adaptation of the beloved movie.
Other season shows include Shrek Jr., The Lifespan of a Fact, Rock of Ages, and The Cottage. DCP regularly programs “Armour After Dark” evenings, as well, which showcase stand-up comedy, improv, music, and storytelling.
Season subscriptions are available in two formats. Main Stage packages allow patrons to secure a ticket for all five of the productions - The Winter’s Tale, The Lifespan of a Fact, Evita, The Cottage, and White Christmas, or any combo of the three. Flex packages are more comprehensive, allowing patrons to secure 6 or 12 passes that are redeemable for any DCP event at any venue.
Subscriptions are available at the website or by calling 704-892-7953.
