Public Service Announcement: Thursday Night Traffic in Davidson

Many Davidson residents know about the traffic associated with a Davidson Men's Basketball game. Others know of the traffic and parking woes associated with the first night of Christmas in Davidson, a night that is often considered the best night for "local folks." This year, for the first time in recent memory, there is a men's basketball game on the first night of Christmas in Davidson (Thursday, Dec. 4).
The college will have their normal parking plan in place for Baker Sports on game day: fans must either have a basketball parking pass or pay $10 to park in the Baker Sports Complex parking lot.
Per the Christmas in Davidson website:
- Main Street from Concord Road to Jackson Street will be closed to traffic and blocked off to allow the community to leisurely stroll throughout Town, enjoying the festivities, while making stops at local specialty shops, and enjoying a wide variety of food from Davidson’s restaurants.
- Accessible Parking will be available in the Davidson Presbyterian Church parking lot at the corner of Jackson Street and Depot Street with an attendant present to allow drivers access.
Residents planning on attending Christmas in Davidson are encouraged to use the trolleys as a means of travel and to avoid the need to find a parking space downtown. There will be three trolley routes operating for Christmas in Davidson.
- East Route: from River Run Athletic Fields parking lot, with stops along Concord Road at Kimberly Road, St. Alban's Lane, Baker Drive, and College Drive.
- North Route: from Davidson Pointe parking lot, with stops along N. Main Street at Beaty and Griffith Street.
- West Route: from Homewood Suites parking lot, with stops at Jetton St. & Peninsula Dr., Davidson Gateway Dr. & Griffith St., Griffith St. & Westside Terrace, Sadler Square (Griffith St. & Jackson St.), and Rumor Mill Market (Watson St. & Depot St.)
If residents opt to walk or ride downtown, they are advised to be visible and take prudent safety precautions when encountering vehicular traffic. It will be dark, and all too often people wear dark clothing which is a dangerous combination.
