A sequel almost a decade in the making, Zootopia 2 now sees the struggling cop team of Nick and Judy uncovering the shady history of the titular city while helping the enigmatic reptile population on the outskirts of the city. After the widely praised 2016 film, Zootopia 2 has some very big shoes to fill.

Thankfully, the sequel easily manages to match the quality of the original. Diving right into the chaos Nick and Judy create, the pacing can feel a bit erratic initially, but once the character of Gary De'Snake is introduced, the film becomes much more focused. Ke Huy Quan brings a surprisingly pleasant addition to the movie as Gary. Along with new characters, Gary expands the world of Zootopia in a delightful way.

These new additions provide many opportunities for humorous characterizations of animal (and occasional human) stereotypes, with a few nods to other films adults will pick up on. And not to worry – many of our favorite personalities from the original film are back and blend in well with this new adventure. Similar to its predecessor, this film presents a captivating script. The story itself plays out in a way that will appeal to younger and older audiences.

The plot provides mystery and a twist, as well as more complex themes if one wishes to explore that deeply. Overall, Zootopia 2 manages to be a very enjoyable film. Between an intriguing and surprisingly mature story and a cast of compelling characters, this film is easily one of Disney's best projects of 2025.
