The NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has completed the construction of the Davidson-Concord Road/Robert Walker Drive Roundabout Project (U-6902). The single lane roundabout is designed to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety and mitigate congestion at this intersection.
The Davidson-Concord Road/Robert Walker Drive roundabout project was funded through a Surface Transportation Block Grant (80%) and General Obligation Bonds (20%) approved by voters in the Town of Davidson, with a total cost of $3,325,000.
Following the NCDOT completion of the scope of work for the roundabout project, the Town of Davidson will install landscaping in the roundabout, as well as Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFBs) to enhance pedestrian visibility and increase driver awareness of crosswalks near the roundabout.
"The completion of this transportation project in our town helps achieve our strategic plan goal of Connecting People and Places," said Mayor Rusty Knox. "The roundabout allows for traffic at this busy intersection to move more smoothly and continuously, while also providing safer crossing options for pedestrians."
