Light to Walk By: a Poem for the New Year

Darkness of the unknown
asks question of us
Needing light to walk by
timid steps are taken
Answers rest deep in
the darkness
or perhaps beyond
In the distant past
seekers of truth
risked a far journey
Lured by ancient
prophecies of promise
Some kind of king
waited for them
Needing light to walk by
a star shed light
on their questions
They would have to
find answers
so they journeyed
not knowing…
Their faith faltering
as the king was
not found
waiting in royalty
Sent they were to
a place of no significance
but they went
Greeted by surprised parents
they pondered
the meagerness of the scene
But then the child’s
gaze caught their
wandering eyes
and somehow they knew
Now you who seek
a king who amazed
willing seekers
need a light
to walk by
The world’s darkness
still offers questions
His gaze now
comes your way
and the light of
his star
offers light
to walk by
Seek and you
will find
