Loosely based on true events, The Rip is a recently released Netflix film about murder, temptation, and morally questionable cops. Starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, The Rip offers an engaging story that pulls you in with its many twists and turns. Not only do the characters not know whom to trust, neither does the audience.

Damon and Affleck head up a great cast, each member providing balance to a story that is full of action. The film doesn’t overdo it, though, as the actors expertly weave increasing tension into the story. You’ll be anxiously wondering what will happen next and which character is playing which role – good cop or bad cop?

Ben Affleck really steals the spotlight as Detective Sergeant J.D. Byrne. Combining a great amount of charisma with plenty of dramatic moments, every scene is amplified whenever Affleck walks in. But his performance does not detract from the other actors, particularly Damon. Damon offers a performance that truly has the audience questioning his morals and his sanity. Yet, the lack of depth on the characters’ backstories, while a little unsatisfying, doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment of the film.

A murder mystery that unfolds as the cops run a crime scene, The Rip will make you reflect on the film as the pieces fall into place. The Rip will have you glued to the screen from beginning to end.
