Residing within are two
who long to be noticed
One strives for power
that seeks to

and often leads
to pain and emptiness

The other seeks pastures
where understanding
waits with patience
for a peace
that seeps beyond
flesh to a soul
needing nurture

Can the wolf and the lamb
exist within
each of us?
Must one win and the
other lose?
One seems weak and
a victim
The other claims victory
that leaves vacancy

“The wolf will lie down
with the lamb
The leopard will lie
down with the goat
The calf and the lion
and the yearling
together
And a little child
shall lead them”

Ancient words of promise
so needed in
a land gone wanting
for wisdom found
only from within

O One who created both
wolf and lamb
grant us a peace
that goes beyond
our bitter separations

The wolf shall live
with the lamb
only if we discover
they both
are within us…
One to be tamed
The other to be
embraced
