Facing the Darkness

The Darkness has an
appetite like a
roving beast
It means to consume
the Light
so as to leave its
victims empty
of hope

But each of us possesses
some of the Light
that waits within
to share a power
the Darkness fears

The Darkness smiles
knowing its far reach
for it knows that
the Light
only shines if
those who possess
it wake to
its shimmering
presence

Rebuke the Darkness
with your part of
the Light
It may seem slight
but many candles
frighten the Darkness
for it knows
what can happen

Many times people
who were despairing
have met the
threatening shout of
the Darkness
and faced its
grim power
to say,
“No”

Long ago a wise
dissenter
dared to step
into the Darkness
though knowing
its power
He looked toward
all who would listen
and said,
“The Light can shine
in the Darkness
and the Light
will overcome
it”

So to you who
read this,
do not hide your Light
under discouragement…
let it shine
