Love From Somewhere Else (a poem for Valentines)

Love From Somewhere Else
(a poem for Valentines)
No varieties of sweet
temptations boxed
and shaped as if
to give away
a heart
No cut flowers gathered
to offer beauty
if only
for a while
No card from a shelf
to convey
feelings felt
from within
This love is from
somewhere else
It comes from
a bird’s song
freely given
It comes from a
gentle rain
that makes
your face
feel fresh
It comes from a
child’s grasp
of your
reaching finger
It comes from the
deep gaze
of someone
who cares
The source of love
is always
from somewhere else
It comes through us
and takes shape
in many ways
The origin of love
is from the
one who created
everything that is
And at this time
when “love”
is witnessed
by many
there is a
cosmic smile
and a soft whisper,
“I love you”
