In Memoriam: Barbara Louise Bentley
Barbara Louise Senn Bentley, 89, of Davidson, N.C., passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, at her home. Born on April 30, 1936, in Laurens, S.C., Barbara was a cherished daughter of the late Charles Arthur Senn II and Louise Rowland Senn.
Throughout her life, Barbara dedicated herself to serving others, retiring as a devoted Librarian and English teacher for the U.S. Department of Defense Overseas School System. Her passion for knowledge and love for literature was only matched by her vibrant spirit and commitment to her community. An active member of Davidson College Presbyterian Church, she found joy and fellowship in her faith, and involvement with her Davidson Book Club and Film Club further reflected her enthusiasm for the arts.
Barbara had an adventurous soul, delighting in classical music performances, theatre outings, and travel that spanned the globe. She found joy in the creative process, whether making pottery, practicing tai chi, swimming, or engaging in yoga. Above all, she cherished the moments spent with her family.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joel Bentley, who had filled her life with love and companionship.
Barbara is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Terry Bentley; her son, Charles Derek Bentley; her brother, Charles Arthur Senn III, and his wife, Patty; as well as her adoring grandchildren, Ethan, Caroline, and Joel Bentley, who will miss her dearly.
