W.E.B. Du Bois called the spirituals “the most beautiful expression of human experience born this side the seas.”
Soon in Davidson, we have the extraordinary privilege of experiencing that beauty together. For the first time, the American Spiritual Ensemble comes to Davidson College to share the power, depth, and enduring legacy of the spiritual — music rooted in faith, resilience, sorrow, and hope, and born right here in the American South.

Davidson College Choirs join the American Spiritual Ensemble in a powerful concert of African American spirituals. Honoring Davidson’s memorial to enslaved and exploited persons, the program invites reflection through music that bears witness, uplifts, and endures. Led by Dr. Everett McCorvey of Lexington, Kentucky.
