Celebrate Arbor Day A Little Early

by Press Release | Mar 16, 2026

DAVIDSON, NC – Davidson residents are invited to celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday, March 28, at Fisher Farm Park at 21215 Shearer Road. The event begins with a brief Arbor Day ceremony at 9:00 a.m., followed by a tree stewarding service project. Following the ceremony, attendees are encouraged to participate in Fisher Farm Discovery Day, a special educational program hosted by Davidson Lands Conservancy in conjunction with the Town of Davidson and Davidson College. This annual celebration of North Carolina’s Arbor Day encourages community members to plant, care for, and learn about the trees and natural landscapes that shape the region.

Fisher Farm Discovery Day is designed to highlight the ongoing preservation, research, and restoration efforts led by the Town of Davidson, Davidson Lands Conservancy, and Davidson College. From 10:00 a.m. to noon, participants will take part in a guided Discovery Walk beginning with an overview of Fisher Farm’s history in the upper main meadow, followed by visits to a series of educational stations covering topics such as Wildlife Enhancement Collaborative (WEC) projects, early spring forest ephemerals and controlled burns, the pollinator meadow, stream restoration and greenway expansion, and the bird life of Fisher Farm. At the conclusion of the rotations, presenters will gather near the parking lot for additional conversation and questions. The morning will wrap up with a special program at the bee hives led by the Town Arborist and BizzyBee.

The Town of Davidson was recently recognized as a 2025 Tree City USA, along with receiving the Tree City USA Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation, marking the Town’s 16th year earning this distinction. This accomplishment was made possible through the efforts of community volunteers, the Sustainability Advisory Board, Davidson Lands Conservancy, and town staff.

“Observing Arbor Day as a community supports the town’s commitment to stewardship of the tree canopy through maintaining the trees we have and working to plant more,” said Jesse Bouk, Town of Davidson Public Works Director. “Thanks to all who care for and celebrate trees as an important part of the town.”

“The Wildlife Enhancement Collaborative (WEC) has been instrumental in creating, maintaining, implementing, and educating the community on this hidden gem that is Fisher Farm," said Andrew Sileo, Town of Davidson Arborist. "WEC is run by an extremely important and diverse group of individuals, including but not limited to DLC members and staff, Town Staff, Davidson College professors, community volunteers, and Mecklenburg County staff. Together they continue to enhance the wildlife habitat and natural tone of Fisher Farm."
