Davidson, NC — During this Volunteer Appreciation Month, Ada Jenkins Center is proud to recognize Jim Phillips, its longest-serving volunteer, for two decades of dedicated service to the North Mecklenburg community.Ada Jenkins Center logo

Jim Phillips began volunteering with the Ada Jenkins Center in 2006 after retiring from a successful career as a chemist. What started as a simple effort to assist with computers quickly grew into a long-term commitment marked by adaptability, curiosity, and a deep sense of service.

Over the years, Phillips has played a vital role in supporting the Center’s technology needs. Initially refurbishing donated computers for community members, he later transitioned to providing in-house technical support as the organization evolved. Today, Phillips continues to volunteer most weekdays, assisting staff with everything from troubleshooting program computers to maintaining and upgrading systems.

Throughout his time at the Center, Phillips has witnessed significant organizational growth and transformation. Despite changes in technology and operations, his commitment has remained constant. Even after considering stepping away, Phillips continues to serve, maintaining his legacy as the Center’s longest-serving volunteer for 20 years and counting.

April marks Volunteer Appreciation Month, allowing for the perfect opportunity to honor individuals like Jim Phillips, whose time and talents strengthen the Ada Jenkins Center’s mission to help individuals and families create lasting solutions for economic stability.
