Waiting: A Poem for Holy Week

Waiting
(a poem for Holy Week)
Waiting for so long…
Voices of hope
“Hosanna”
Waiting for something
or someone
to free them
“Hossana”
Waiting but surprised…
A humble ride
“Hosanna”
Then the wait is over…
Water poured over
dusty feet
Coins of betrayal
offered and taken
Words of denial
and failed faithfulness
Hands washed and
pardon rejected
And then the waiting
resumes…
Death among strangers
Abandonment by
a distant father
And an end with words spoken,
“It is finished”
Then the final waiting
until a hoped for
sunrise
Then the waiting
will be over
forever.
