Davidson Lands Conservancy Adopts Three-Year Strategic Plan

by Davidson Lands Conservancy | Mar 31, 2026

Davidson Lands Conservancy (DLC) is a nationally accredited, community-based nonprofit land trust. Over the past nine months, our Board and staff have spent countless hours talking with community members, holding meetings, and sharpening language to craft an extensive plan that will guide our work over the coming three years.

We have developed a new Mission Statement: To conserve local land and water, connect lives to nature, and promote stewardship of natural resources.

We fine-tuned our VISION to inspire us and our VALUES to clarify the basis for all our activities.

We set GOALS to guide our day-to-day efforts during that period:

I:             Conserve Identified Land in the Greater Davidson Region

II:           Steward Land, Tree Canopy, Wildlife Habitat, and Parks

III:         Educate and Engage the Public

IV:          Ensure DLC’s Operations are Sustainable

These goals are amplified by OBJECTIVES, STRATEGIES, MEASUREMENTS OF SUCCESS, and RESPONSIBILITIES that detail how we intend to carry out that work.

DLC’s primary goal continues to focus on protecting land – the “bread and butter” of any land conservation organization. Since 1990, the Town of Davidson’s population has tripled - to approximately 16,000 residents. Over 150 people move to the Charlotte – Mecklenburg County region every day. This growth puts tremendous pressure on our area’s remaining natural resources. Our organization welcomes regional growth, but we recognize the need for responsible development that includes land conservation.

None of DLC’s critical work over the coming three years will be possible without the involvement and support of area residents. Please support your local land trust – the Davidson Lands Conservancy – as we work with the Town and area governments, the College, and individuals to keep our community green.
