“They Will Kill You” Review

by JG7 | Apr 2, 2026

Starring Zazie Beetz as Asia Reeves and Myha'la as Maria Reeves, “They Will Kill You” sees former convict Asia Reeves taking a housekeeping job at the mysterious Virgil high-rise to investigate the disappearance of her sister, Maria. Little does she know that she has been chosen to be a sacrifice in the cult-run building’s monthly tribute to Satan in exchange for immortality.

Though a dark premise, “They Will Kill You” ends up being a comedic, at times, goofy film. Due to their satanic pact, the cult of The Virgil is imbued with Deadpool-esque healing factors. Likewise, even the goriest of kills ends up being a source of levity. Zazie Beetz is incredibly entertaining as Asia Reeves. Between her experiences in prison and her disbelief at the situation, Asia is willing to do whatever it takes to find her sister and escape The Virgil. Most of her actions are entertainingly over-the-top in both drama and violence.

Patricia Arquette as the formidable Lilith adeptly brings some complexity to an otherwise villainous role.  One of the few characters with a backstory, we see why someone would sell their soul to the devil, and what it costs them.

Though meant to be a dark comedy, “They Will Kill You” can be more silly than clever. Some of the comedic moments can lower the stakes further than they should be, resulting in dramatic moments missing their mark and audiences being lost in the ocean of blood. Still, while an over-exaggerated spectacle of a film, “They Will Kill You” is a funny, gore-filled experience that can be entertaining.
