It Can’t be True
(a poem for Easter)
Within the crucible
of Evil
resides a cradling
permanence
“There will be no end
to my reign”
The words spoken
with a dark smile
Deep in the cavity
of Suffering
comes an abiding
certainty that
it will always
endure
Then something happens
that can’t be true
It began with a
faint whisper
amidst animals
who shared
their lonely home
The road was narrow
and mystery
was a constant
companion
Many wondered if
it could be true
Evil and Suffering
watched from a
distance
knowing that nothing
would change
They witnessed their triumph
on a dark forsaken
hill
as the God they hated
simply watched
But on a morning that
was overcome
with a sunrise
never seen before,
a cosmic surprise
dawned
Evil and Suffering
knew even then
they were not banished
but their power
was diminished
Then he raised his scarred
hands
and looked into
the faces of
those long living
enemies
and said but one word,
“Resurrection”
And Evil and Suffering
bowed their heads
and had to say,
“It can’t be true”
But it was…
Easter
