Several weeks ago, Davidson basketball scholar-athlete Charlise Dunn was drafted by the WNBA. This past weekend the Davidson Women’s Lacrosse team won the A-10 Tournament, marking the first conference tournament win for a women’s team at Davidson since joining the league in 2014.

The ‘Cats faced three tough opponents in the A-10 tournament that was held on their home turf in Davidson College Stadium. They defeated St. Joseph’s 13-6 on Thursday, Richmond (previously undefeated in the conference) 11-10 on Friday, and VCU 10-5 on Sunday.

Just hours after the win over the VCU Rams, the Wildcats were back in Davidson College Stadium, this time in the Game Changers Field House. They gathered in the venue that overlooks the field to await the news from the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Selection Show.

The show, airing live on ESPNU, began at 9:00 p.m. After waiting through the announcement of the pairings in three of the four sections of the bracket, the Wildcats heard their name announced and the scholar-athletes burst into cheer and jumped for joy.

Friday afternoon the Wildcats will travel to Chapel Hill to take on the Clemson Tigers. Some readers will remember that this is not the first time the ‘Cats have played Clemson.

While they don't play in “Death Valley,” the famed venue for Tigers’ football, the Tigers' lacrosse team boasts of having the first  facility in the country that is dedicated exclusively to women’s lacrosse. The Wildcats have a special connection to that facility. In addition to playing in the very first game, they scored the very first goal on Clemson’s new turf. Here’s hoping the ‘Cats will channel that memory this Friday in Chapel Hill. Go ‘Cats.
