Fire at Kindred Restaurant

by Marguerite Williams | May 5, 2026

On Sunday evening, May 3, at 7:30, a fire broke out in this much-loved Davidson restaurant. It started in a wastebasket and was contained in the upstairs bathroom.

The fire suppression of water sprinklers began immediately, and all the diners were evacuated without incident.

The owners, Katy and Joe Kindred, praised the quick thinking of all their staff, naming Kenny, Brandy, Scottie B., Tammy, Chef Craig, John, and Rampton, who moved people out in a calm and professional manner. The Kindreds pointed out that the important thing is that no one was injured. Damage can be repaired, and they now are in the process of discovering the extent of the water damage from the sprinklers.

They expressed gratitude for local restaurants that reached out to them right away to help however they could. The college also got in touch with the Kindreds to offer support.

Joe Kindred said that they and their great team will “come back stronger than ever after clean up and remediation. This is an opportunity to grow and learn and become even better.

“We have received texts and well wishes from many in this community…We got through Covid with this kind of support from the greater Charlotte community. We’ll be breaking milkbread together before you know it.”
