Gift for Grads, and What We’re Reading

by Main Street Books | May 20, 2026

“Which way do I go?
That is your choice to make,
said the Road.”
-Cleo Wade, What the Road Said

Dear Reader,

What an incredibly buzzy month of books we're having! Cristina, Renee, Molly, and Kat have been talking passionately about Kathryn Stockett's "Calamity Club" all week. One of them may have declared it a favorite book of all time.

Our towering stack of Matt Dinniman's "A Parade of Horribles" was snapped up by rabid fans of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series on release day yesterday (this is the 8th book!).

Jan is enamored with Kory Stamper's "True Color: The Strange and Spectacular Quest to Define Color--from Azure to Zinc Pink." This word-nerd history started when Stamper was editing dictionaries and noticed that the definitions of colors were so much more whimsical than the rest of the entries.

And Jennifer and I are obsessed with Patricia Cornwell's new memoir, "True Crime." But enough about us!

It’s hard to believe that we are in that cherished time of year again: graduation season. As graduates and faculty trade their books and backpacks for caps and gowns, send them into their next chapter with a thoughtful or humorous book!

Maybe your graduate has filled a well-loved copy of Dr. Seuss’ "Oh, the Places You’ll Go!" with teacher messages each year? Pair it with Cleo Wade's moving picture book, "What the Road Said" for a rich complement.

Check out our full list of graduation gift recommendations below. There are a number of new releases, in addition to reissued classics. We are certain you’ll find a new favorite in the bunch.

And don’t forget about the teachers! We can’t end the school year without showing appreciation for our favorite educators. Our "Emily Lex Studio Watercolor Workbooks," Archer and Olive Notebooks, and bookstore scented candles make the perfect gifts for teachers seeking to unwind after a jam-packed school year spent educating tiny humans.

With cheer,

Adah + the Main Street Books Team

P.S. Do you relish the anticipation of forthcoming books? We keep a list of popular pre-orders on our home page.

At the top of that list right now are Ann Patchett's "Whistler," Maggie O'Farrell's "Land," David Sedaris' "The Land and Its People," and Colson Whitehead's "Cool Machine." But don't take my word for it. . . . see for yourself.

P.P.S. When you pre-order books from us, we'll have your copy ready on pub day (and we'll send you a reminder)!
