“In The Grey” Review

by JG7 | May 21, 2026

Starring Henry Cavill as Sid, Jake Gyllenhaal as Bronco, and Eiza González as Rachel, “In The Grey” sees Rachel and her team enlisted to recover a billion-dollar debt from a notorious crime boss. With no easing into the story, the audience is thrown right into the action and the story from the first minute. The film consists of a heavy amount of narration but doesn't necessarily explain every detail. Therefore, audiences will need to pay close attention to the chess-like moves of the players.

Eiza González takes center stage as Rachel. Always appearing to be multiple steps ahead of her rivals, she carries herself with a calm and confident demeanor in almost every situation. No matter how dire things seem to get, audiences will wonder what plans she is making and/or has already set in motion. Rachel’s lead partners, Sid and Bronco, are smartly cast in Cavill and Gyllenhall, who play off one another in a well-choreographed scheme.

However, “In The Grey’s” storytelling can be confusing. Scenes will often jump back and forth in time to show multiple events happening at once. With so much action and pieces moving on the stage, audiences can feel lost, despite the ample narration attempting to keep everyone informed. At the same time, the film seems like a chapter in a longer story. Perhaps there will be another movie to answer questions the audience no doubt is left with. A captivating film, “In The Grey” will easily grab audiences’ attention and hold them from beginning to end, though perhaps not fully satisfied.
