Work Continues on the Potts-115 Roundabout in Cornelius

As traffic is rerouted on Potts Street to the unfinished roundabout in Cornelius, local drivers are becoming impatient at not being able to drive directly on Main Street to our neighbor to the south.
(Meanwhile, Davidson's South Main businesses are open and still have easy access.)
According to Doug Wright, the Town’s project manager, “The work at the underpass is part of the Cornelius roundabout project at the YMCA, managed by the NCDOT, and the water / sewer / storm water relocations have been complicated.”
There have been negotiations with one property owner, Davidson’s Green School, on South Main. Wright went on to say, “The storm water relocations have involved a property transaction with the Green School, which they are close to resolving.”
Drivers will have to bear with the detour for a few more months. Wright said, “They anticipate re-opening the underpass by the end of summer.“

This project is at the behest of the Town of Cornelius. The Cornelius town website offers this description of the need for the roundabout and this image:
“The current angled Potts Street/NC 115 intersection results in poor sight distance for drivers. As traffic continues to increase, congestion and queuing (sic) are expected to worsen. The purpose of the project is to improve traffic operations for drivers traveling through the area. The Potts Street Roundabout will improve safety and access issue (sic) for traffic utilizing the YMCA and improves (sic) the efficiency of NC 115 in the area.”
