To the Sun: a Poem by Jody Seymour

To the Sun
Again, you caressed the
dark that had its day
but your arrival is
full of a promise
that time contains
what might be
So, we greet you along
with a host of children
of the earth
Your dawn grows
not tired
as your giving seems
so very constant
What have you seen on
your journey of rest
as stars shared their
dance of night?
You waited to see
if we would again
take notice
of the gift we call
today
You will not last but
for another short visit
but what will it be
for those who wait
upon your sharing?
…a beginning
…an end
Ah, but your wish
must be that this brightness
not be
“just another day”
We greet you and
bow our heads
with deep reverence
for who you are…
Our shining star
of hope
