Kate Merrill's latest book, "Lost Girls Club," focuses on the problem of lost and missing girls in the United States, which, according to Merrill, is worse now than ever. Her character, Detective Red Calendar, takes on the case of a teenager missing for twenty-five years.

Merrill said, "Originally the whole concept of Detective Red Calendar began about ten years ago, when I was still publishing Male/Female romantic suspense. When I came to my senses and began writing my truth as a lesbian, Red evolved into a lesbian and her life on my pages began, first in cameo appearances in the Amanda Rittenhouse series.

Author Kate Merrill

"Red, like me, is an older, somewhat world-weary woman–a little bit shy and awkward in social situations, sometimes feeling unworthy. I have been luckier in love, I’m not nearly so physically brave, but I am driven to achieve. I would be unlikely to date her; we are too much alike. But I would strive to be her friend."

From the description on Amazon, "Charlotte detective Red’s new lover asks Red to find her long-lost sister, Ashley, missing twenty-five years. Old friends become suspects, a dormant serial killer awakens, lost girls are found in mass graves, and the trail goes cold to New Orleans. Will their love survive if Red fails to find Ashley?"

After penning two traditional romances, Merrill created the Diana Rittenhouse Mystery series (five books) featuring a Yankee real estate agent who begins a new life in the South. To lend authenticity to these titles, Kate obtained her broker’s license and sold real estate. Then Amanda Rittenhouse, Diana’s daughter, took over the mystery series, allowing Kate to develop a lesbian character with whom she could closely identify. (six books) Currently, Kate is writing the Red Calendar mystery series of up to ten titles. She also wrote a non-fiction title about Addie James, an American folk artist, as well as editing a collection of poetry by Herbert Merrill, Kate's father, called "North Shore." Kate’s father was a renowned poet in the mid Twentieth Century.

The book is available on Amazon.
