Circle de Luz Launches Mija Recruitment Scholarship Campaign: Make the Pledge, Make a Difference

Circle de Luz Class of 2025 graduates with their Class Captains
Circle de Luz, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young Latinas through education, mentorship, integrated services, and scholarships, is proud to announce the launch of its Class of 2032 Mija Recruitment Campaign. It was founded by Davidson resident and Davidson College graduate Rosie Molinary in 2008.
Each year, Circle de Luz selects a new cohort of 7th grade students and commits to walking alongside them for six transformative years. Throughout this journey, students receive comprehensive developmental programming, one-on-one mentorship, and culturally responsive support connecting them and their families to essential community resources. This fall, we’re thrilled to welcome the Class of 2032, and together, we can build the circle of support that will not only fund their scholarships, but also empower their growth, amplify their voices, and help them achieve their boldest dreams.

Circle de Luz students get to participate in a variety of enriching and educational programs.
“Mija” is a term of endearment in Latin American culture signaling care, closeness, and protectiveness. In that light, the initiative seeks to engage and recruit community members who are passionate about supporting the next generation of Latina leaders by joining the giving circle that funds $5,000 scholarships for students completing Circle de Luz’s six-year program. The Mija giving circle is open to everyone—individuals, families, friend groups, clubs or associations, organizations, or companies. Gifts can also be made in honor of special women in the donors’ lives.
The Mija Recruitment Campaign is essential to ensure that every student who completes the Circle de Luz program receives the financial support they need to pursue higher education. By becoming a Mija—a member of the giving circle—community members can make a direct and lasting impact on the lives of these young women, helping them achieve their academic and career aspirations.
“Our Mija giving circle powers our mission while making philanthropy accessible. Many small gifts collectively fuel big dreams!” said Tere González García, Executive Director of Circle de Luz. “The generosity and commitment of our Mijas enable us to provide life-changing scholarships to our students. We’re calling on all community members to join this incredible effort to invest in a powerful 6-year journey of mentorship, leadership development, and wraparound support, and it starts with a monthly, quarterly, or annual commitment.”
