Davidson Lands Conservancy (DLC) has announced a new grant to help care for our town's Treasure Trees thanks to funding from Trane Technologies, the title sponsor of the Treasure Tree Program. Homeowners whose properties host a Treasure Tree designated by DLC and the Davidson Tree Council can apply for the pilot grant cycle from August 1 to December 31, 2026 for assistance in paying to care of their Treasure Tree.
The grant will provide $500 to help with maintenance including treatment of pests, disease, and health-related pruning in order to extend the life and quality of a tree. To apply, tree owners can find the full details and application form online or email dlc@davidsonlands.org for more information.
This grant comes at an exciting time as the Town of Davidson has recently been awarded status as an official arboretum because of our extensive network of labeled trees, and in particular, DLC's formal inventory of Treasure Trees and associated educational programming. DLC is excited to advance support for our town's most special trees through the grant program.
The Treasure Tree Program seeks to identify remarkable trees and tell their stories, while sharing their ecological importance to the region’s environment. Treasure Trees include large or physically unique specimens, rare trees, or trees of cultural or historical significance. Local tree enthusiasts, private arborists, Davidson College representatives, Trane Technologies employees, and DLC staff all collaborate through the Davidson Tree Council to identify and catalog these remarkable trees.
We are currently seeking nominations for new Treasure Trees. If you know of a tree that is especially large, physically unique, rare, or culturally or historically significant, please submit a nomination here.
The Treasure Tree Program is an initiative of Davidson Lands Conservancy and is funded by Trane Technologies. We receive valuable as-needed support from the Town of Davidson and the Town Arborist.
