How to Sing: a Poem by Harper Winfrey Griffin

Stand up straight and don’t slouch,
Breath in and then breathe out,
Fill the silence with dancing notes,
Let any tension and strain leave you,
With joy and the song within,
Open your eyes and see the light,
Swirling around you, your one song lighting up the day or night,
Sway to the music and don’t be stiff,
Let the song sweep you off your feet and let the feeling take over,
The feeling, the tingling sensation,
The aria becomes a painting,
Your voice becomes the brush,
You paint your soul, from the beginning to the end,
Beautiful colors, you making art,
And now you are singing.
