Enrollment is open for our LEARN Works Afterschool Program!
Running mid-September through mid-May, we offer two opportunities at the Ada Jenkins Center and our partner school, with transportation included.
Free: LEARN Works Afterschool Academic & Enrichment Program
Tailored for K-5 students who are 1 to 2 grade levels behind in reading, this program offers dedicated reading and academic skill support alongside engaging enrichment opportunities, such as career exploration, social-emotional learning, financial literacy, and family engagement resources.
$50/week: LEARN Works Afterschool Care Program
For all K-5 students (regardless of reading level), this program provides a safe and engaging space with the same enrichment opportunities as the Academic & Enrichment Program.

Volunteer opportunities
As-Needed Interpreters
Help interpret at parent-instructor meetings, conferences, and events. Our families speak Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, French, and Mandarin. Must be at least 16 years old
- Hours: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
- Dates: Sep 9 – June 30, 2027
- Location: 212 Gamble Street

LEARN Works Ambassador — Community Outreach Volunteer
LEARN Works Ambassadors assist with community events by providing hands-on support with technology and program information. Training is provided, with volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

2026-2027 LEARN Works Afterschool Academic & Enrichment Program
Instructors help our students progress toward grade-level reading by tutoring and mentoring. Volunteer roles include Classroom Tutor Mentors, Queen City Readers Tutors, Enrichment & Operations Assistant Volunteers, Dismissal Attendants, and Substitutes. Must be at least 16 years old.
- Dates: 2x a week commitment
- Monday – Friday
- Location: Ada Jenkins Center in Davidson; Huntersville Elementary School in Huntersville

Needs for the street outreach team
Summer is winding down, but our unhoused neighbors in the community still need these everyday items as they work toward stability. Our street outreach team provides basic needs and vital resources to the homeless population in North Mecklenburg.
Here are some items we currently need
- Wipes
- Sunscreen/spf
- Deodorant
- No-melt snacks (like applesauce pouches, jerky, protein bars, trail mix)
- Bug spray
- Mini first aid kits
