North Carolina Baroque Orchestra
15th Anniversary Celebration Concert
Directed by Frances Blaker
Concert in Memory of Sally Blaker
The North Carolina Baroque Orchestra celebrates 15 years of Bringing New Life To Old Music in our region with special concerts in memory of Sally Blaker, the mother of NCBO’s artistic director Frances Blaker and executive director and cellist Barbara Blaker Krumdieck.
Sally was instrumental in encouraging and inspiring her daughters to pursue music and follow their dreams, which led to the founding of this magnificent orchestra of professional musicians who specialize in historically informed performance of Baroque music on period instruments.
Frances Blaker will lead the orchestra in these 15th Anniversary concerts, which include 27 specialist musicians performing music for strings, winds, and theorbo by J.S. Bach, J.C. Bach, Muffat, Rameau, Telemann, Geminiani, and Mozart.
Ms. Blaker’s engaging and informative comments about the music and composers will further enhance your listening experience.
In this special program of music spanning the baroque through early Classical periods, the flutes and bassoon will be featured in a charming concerto grosso by Geminiani, and the oboes will shine in a gorgeous concerto by Telemann. The strings have their moment in the spotlight sharing their glorious string sounds with you in Georg Muffat’s stunning Passacaglia and a lovely and familiar Mozart Divertimento.
You’ll hear the entire orchestra come to life in a Symphony by J.C Bach, a heartrending mini-suite of music by Rameau and an arrangement for our full orchestra of J.S. Bach’s magnificent Brandenburg Concerto no. 3.
