“Runner” Review

by JG7 | Sep 24, 2026

Starring Alan Ritchson as Hank Malone and Owen Wilson as Ben Bishop, “Runner” follows Malone, a former soldier turned courier for hire who is enlisted by Bishop to transport him and an incredibly valuable organ to a dying girl. After picking up Bishop and his cargo, Malone and Bishop soon find themselves pursued by a criminal organization trying to get the organ. Heavy on action, “Runner” features elaborate and fast paced fight scenes, as well as car chases.

The movie’s action finds good balance with the emotional backstory of the Runner, Malone. As a recovering alcoholic whose marriage ended in divorce, Malone has been trying to find peace. Unfortunately, the circumstances of this particular delivery ultimately force him to take violent measures to protect Bishop and the organ. Ritchson easily manages to portray this duality in a way that is both entertaining and engaging. In contrast to Malone's more reserved personality, Owen Wilson as Ben Bishop works well as the antithesis of Malone. Bishop’s outgoing personality and levity draw Malone out, providing a more interesting story. Indeed, the contrast of these personalities makes for a fun dynamic.

Overall, the plot of intertwining stories of pursuit, good versus evil, and a man finding redemption is good. However, at times, the balance gets thrown when the film slows to focus on Malone’s story, leaving the audience to look at their own clocks and wonder if Malone and Bishop are truly aware of their cargo’s limited time.

Still, “Runner” is a fun, action-filled film, combining a lot of intense moments with humor and a bit of heart. An enjoyable film, “Runner” will not leave audiences disappointed.
