The Choice

The Choice
The bird
her head twitching
back and forth..
nervous?
or
curious?
As if she is making
a choice
Me
looking back and forth…
the dark news
of despair
or
the light
through the
limbs…
the tree providing
the frame
for
my choice
Always there is the
call of a
daily cascade
of never ending
“news”…
loss of fading
currency
loss of dreams
loss of lives in
a name we call
“war”
But then the
cry of a
newborn
the whisper of
leaves telling
of a coming
rain
the deep look of
a dog’s
loving eyes
My head turns
back and forth
and
there is the
choice
Ah…
Let there be
light
and there was
light
The choice…
