Editors’ Choice: Recognizing Things that Count

by | Nov 16, 2020 | News, Top Left Box

Since News of Davidson went live in September 2017, we have posted more than 2,000 stories and column contributions, and literally uncountable calendar events. Our stories celebrate neighbors, promote local nonprofits, events, and businesses, and share hundreds of community images.

To celebrate those three years of community news, Editors’ Choice hopes to remind you why News of Davidson counts.

This week co-editor Margo Williams chose her co-editor Meg Kimmel’s tasty story from our first year, when the CBS Morning Show interviewed Joe and Katy Kindred about their now beloved namesake restaurant, Kindred.

Some of us remember when there weren’t such delicious choices just around the corner, but today, we can count on Carrburritos, Pickled Peach, Soda Shop, Summit Coffee, Davidson Pizza Company, Famous Toastery, Good Drip Coffee, Davidson Wine Co., Your Mom’s Bazaar, Lake Norman Cottage and the Cabin, North Harbor Club, Subway, NY Bagels, Clean Juice, Rushco Food Market, Harris Teeter, The Brickhouse Tavern, Restaurant X, Whit’s, Ben and Jerry’s, The Crazy Pig, Flatiron, Mandolino’s, Il Bosco, Toast, Mestizo, The Egg, Sabor, Sabi, Asian Bistro, Davidson Chocolate, Icehouse, Kindred and the newly opened Masala Mastee, with Indian street food. Imagine a town the size of ours with all of these excellent dining options!

We look forward to emerging from this pandemic with all of them still cooking strong. For now, mask up and order out, choose a sidewalk table or distance indoors, and support these and other town businesses.

We’ll repost these previous columns about once a week through the end of 2020, partly as a way to spread a little joy when we all can use some, and yes, to encourage your support for this work we love to do.
