You might have noticed a new columnist in our Wednesday email.

When D.G. Martin posted one of his recent weekly columns featuring a Davidson connection, we wondered if we could print his columns. So, we reached out to D.G. to see if he would consider letting News of Davidson publish his “One on One” columns – especially those that have direct connection to our town. He said “yes.” Moreover, he quickly sent us the column about the late Dr. Julian “The Blue Knight” Pleasants.

As many of you know, D.G. is a child of Davidson. His father, Grier Martin, class of 1932, was President of Davidson College from 1958-68.

D.G. grew up in town and graduated from the college in 1962. He was a scholar-athlete, playing basketball for Lefty Driesell. After service in the U.S. Army (Special Forces) he went to Yale Law School and established his law practice in Charlotte. He has also served in various leadership positions in the UNC system and state-wide nonprofits.

He is the host of “North Carolina Bookwatch” on PBS, and also wrote the book “Interstate Eateries – a guide to local restaurants in North Carolina.”
